It is apt that our last blog post of 2013 has a Christmas theme:  a select delegation from our BA Graphic Design Communication course had a very special invitation to Number 10 Downing Street this term. The recent GREAT Christmas card project was undertaken by third year students on the course.

The front of the card features an imaginative design by the winning student designer Josh Duffy and the reverse of the card features the following text:

‘Working with Chelsea College of Arts, GREAT celebrates the best of up and coming creative talent. Star was designed and created by 3rd year student Josh Duffy, who won the opportunity to tell his story….

“Coming to Chelsea is interesting because the journey you take is wholly unpredictable. The idea behind my card stems from the notion of many individuals coming together to make the whole. The sculptural response reflects British creativity because it positions graphic design between manufacture and craft.”

GREAT would like to thank all the 3rd year students that took part and finally all the supporters of the GREAT Britain campaign’.

The campaign would like to thank all the 3rd year students that took part. Our winner, Josh has an enviable biog on the reverse of every card, which offers great exposure for him.

The client ‘Radley Yeldar’ thanked everyone for taking part and really demonstrating some striking and inspired design. The client at No.10 was ‘delighted’ by the response from Chelsea graphic design students.

The overall criteria for client selection was based on the ideas resonating and translating to international markets and those students that looked at the ‘familiar’ within the UK and celebrated it in a surprising way.

Another GREAT win for Design at Chelsea!

Congratulations to Josh and our Design team and Season’s Greetings to our readers, we will be back with more stories in 2014!
